Roblox thumbnail size
A Roblox experience thumbnail should be 16:9 and ideally 1920x1080 pixels. Thumbnails used for home page personalization also have to stay under 3 MB. The experience icon is a different image with a different rule - it must be square and at least 512x512 - and a game pass icon is a third rule again.
What Roblox says
A thumbnail image should be 16:9 aspect ratio and ideally 1920x1080 pixels so that it always displays in high resolution across the Roblox site and app.
Appears under "Images" and again under "Best practices > Quality and aspect ratio".
Make sure to keep these images under 3 MB and 1920x1080 pixels.
Appears under "Home page personalization > Set up thumbnail personalization".
Displayed thumbnails will be stretched to 16:9 aspect ratio regardless of the upload's aspect ratio.
Appears under "Best practices > Quality and aspect ratio".

Keep the bottom clear
In addition to the practices shown below, avoid placing any essential text or elements at the bottom of the thumbnail, as it may potentially be covered by metadata like the player count.
Appears in the warning at the top of "Best practices".
Roblox does not say how tall that band is, so neither do we. The practical rule: put the title and the main character in the upper two thirds, and let the bottom edge carry only background.
How many to upload, and how many to turn on
You can feature up to 10 images or videos for each of your games' detail pages.
Appears at the top of the page, before "Images".
Thumbnail personalization only starts when you activate 2 or more thumbnails. If only one of your thumbnails is active, all users see that thumbnail for your game on their home page.
Appears under "Home page personalization".
To activate existing thumbnails, enable the Active checkbox next to 2-5 thumbnails.
Appears under "Home page personalization > Set up thumbnail personalization".
In other words: one active thumbnail means everyone sees the same image, and nothing is being tested. Keep 2 to 5 genuinely different ideas active - a different hook, not the same picture with a new color - so personalization has something to choose between.
Three Roblox images, three different rules
This is where most of the confusion comes from: the thumbnail, the experience icon and the game pass icon are three separate uploads, and the number 512 means the opposite thing in two of them. An experience icon must be at least 512x512; a game pass icon must not exceed 512x512.

What Nexframe generates, measured
The 16:9 frame comes out at 1376x768 pixels, or 2752x1536 at the higher setting, plus a 4K upscale. Those are measured on our own output, not rounded from a spec sheet - and they carry one honest caveat:
1376 / 768 = 1.7917
16 / 9 = 1.7778
at 1920 px wide: 1072 px tall, 8 px short of 1080
The generated frame is a hair wider than exact 16:9. Scaled to 1920 pixels wide it lands 8 pixels short of 1080 - invisible in practice, and worth knowing if you are the kind of person who measures. We would rather write it down than let you find it yourself.
Common questions
What size should a Roblox thumbnail be?
16:9, and ideally 1920x1080 pixels. Roblox states that size so the image stays sharp everywhere it is shown, on the site and in the app.
Is the Roblox game icon the same size as the thumbnail?
No, and it is a different image. The thumbnail is 16:9; the experience icon has to be square and at least 512x512 pixels. Uploading a 16:9 image as an icon gets it squashed or cropped.
Is a game pass icon the same as the game icon?
No. Both mention 512x512, and they mean opposite things: an experience icon must be at least 512x512, while a game pass icon must not exceed 512x512. A pass icon is also displayed inside a circle.
Is there a file size limit for Roblox thumbnails?
For thumbnails used in home page personalization, Roblox asks for under 3 MB. The general thumbnail page does not state a limit.
How many thumbnails can a Roblox game have?
Up to 10 images or videos on the game's detail page. For home page personalization, Roblox only starts testing when 2 or more thumbnails are active, and the setup asks you to activate 2-5.
What should I keep away from the bottom of a Roblox thumbnail?
Anything essential - the title, the main character, the hook. Roblox warns that the bottom of the thumbnail may be covered by metadata like the player count.
What happens if my Roblox thumbnail is not 16:9?
It gets stretched. Roblox displays thumbnails at 16:9 regardless of the upload's aspect ratio, so a square or 4:3 image ends up distorted.
Which image formats does Roblox accept for thumbnails?
.jpg, .gif, .png, .tga or .bmp, according to the Creator Hub.
What does Nexframe export?
16:9 images at 1376x768 or 2752x1536, plus a 4K upscale. The generated frame is 1.7917 wide, a hair wider than exact 16:9 (1.7778): scaled to 1920 pixels wide it is about 8 pixels short of 1080 tall, which is not visible but is worth knowing if you measure.
Make one at the right size
Everything the Roblox thumbnail maker generates is 16:9. Describe the idea, pick a style, and keep the title away from the bottom.
Already have one? Test it
The Roblox thumbnail tester shows your image on the Home at the real tile sizes and checks the size, the file and what reads at phone size - in your browser, without uploading it.
Next, the square ones
A thumbnail alone is not enough: your experience needs a square icon too, and every pass you sell needs its own.
