What Epic asks for

Thumbnails should be 1920x1080 minimum (16:9 aspect ratio) for a rectangular thumbnail and the image size should be no larger than 5 MB.

The format should be JPG.

One honest catch: Nexframe's 1376x768 setting is below Epic's 1920x1080 minimum. For an island thumbnail, generate at 2752x1536 or use the 4K upscale, then export a 1920x1080 JPG under 5 MB. The free first thumbnail is generated at 2K, so it already clears the minimum.

The rules your thumbnail has to pass

Epic reviews island thumbnails against its image policy. In short, from each section of it:

Ensure your thumbnail accurately represents your island and doesn't mislead players about what sort of experience they'll have. For example, any guns or devices featured on your thumbnail must be available and interactable in your island.

Nexframe's Fortnite engine is built around two of these: it is instructed to draw generic heroes, never licensed skins, and to add no text unless you give it a title. Still, look before you upload. One thing to watch: the default style can add "+1" pop-ups or coins as a hook, and Epic does not allow coins or XP references. If your island is going to Discover, regenerate or edit those out before you upload.

Ideas that fit an island

The Fortnite mode comes with ready concepts you can start from and rewrite:

Need the square one too? Switch the style to Map icon (1:1) for an icon drawn to read at small size in the Discover grid. Making a Roblox game as well? The Roblox thumbnail maker is the same tool with the other engine.

Questions

What size should a Fortnite island thumbnail be?

Epic asks for at least 1920x1080, 16:9, no larger than 5 MB, as a JPG. In Nexframe that means the 2752x1536 setting or the 4K upscale - the 1376x768 setting is below Epic's minimum.

Can I put Fortnite skins in my thumbnail?

Nexframe is not built for that: its Fortnite engine is instructed to draw generic heroes in the Fortnite style, never a licensed or named skin. Epic's own policy also rules out Epic logos, product names and recreated assets in thumbnails.

Does it work for UEFN and Fortnite Creative islands?

Yes. The Fortnite mode is built for island thumbnails: one hero, a readable scene, and a square Map icon (1:1) style for the icon.

Is the first thumbnail free for Fortnite too?

Yes. The free first thumbnail works in Fortnite mode, with no Gemini key (one per person, while today's free spots last), and it is generated at 2K, 16:9 (2752x1536), above Epic's minimum.

Is this a Fortnite YouTube thumbnail maker or an island thumbnail maker?

An island thumbnail maker. An island thumbnail is reviewed against Epic's Thumbnail Image Policies and has to be at least 1920x1080, 16:9, under 5 MB; Nexframe's Fortnite mode is built for that one. Its output is 16:9, so it can also be used as a video thumbnail.

Is Nexframe affiliated with Epic Games?

No. Nexframe is an independent tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Epic Games.
